The Brain Rules
1. EXERCISE: Exercise boosts brain power.
2. SURVIVAL: The human brain evolved, too.
3. WIRING: Every brain is wired differently.
4. ATTENTION: We don’t pay attention to boring things.
5. SHORT-TERM MEMORY: Repeat to remember.
6. LONG-TERM MEMORY: Remember to repeat.
7. SLEEP: Sleep well, think well.
8. STRESS: Stressed brains don’t learn the same way.
9. SENSORY INTEGRATION: Stimulate more of the senses.
10. VISION: Vision trumps all other senses.
11. GENDER: Male and female brains are different.
12. EXPLORATION: We are powerful and natural explorers.John Medina’s 12 Principles for Surviving and Thriving at Work, Home, and School. (via swissmiss)
Okay FINE but I hate when people try to find/prove differences between males and females. From the website:
“Mental health professionals have known for years about sex-based differences in the type and severity of psychiatric disorders. Males are more severely afflicted by schizophrenia than females. By more than 2 to 1, women are more likely to get depressed than men, a figure that shows up just after puberty and remains stable for the next 50 years. Males exhibit more antisocial behavior. Females have more anxiety. Most alcoholics and drug addicts are male. Most anorexics are female.”
Oh really? Most anorexics are female? Women are more likely to get depressed? And that proves that males and females have different brains? What about nature v. nurture because I think if misandry was a prevalent as misogyny then maybe we would be at a tie game. This is such a stupid website.
HEY PS: I am so excited for my womens studies elective next year. SOMEBODY’S been doing extra reading on her own!
